Media Snag – Chrome Extension
Media Snag is a browser extension that detects video and audio streams (HLS, DASH, and direct media files) on webpages and allows users to download them. It operates entirely within the user's browser and does not transmit any data to external servers controlled by the extension developer. This privacy policy explains what data is accessed, how it is used, and how it is stored.
Media Snag does not collect any personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, email addresses, or device identifiers. The extension does not require account creation or login. No analytics, tracking, or telemetry data is collected.
The extension accesses and processes the following data during normal operation:

These fetches are made directly to the media server hosting the content — no data is routed through any intermediary.downloads API without additional processing.navigator.requestMediaKeySystemAccess solely to detect whether a page uses DRM-protected content. This detection is passive — it does not block, modify, or interfere with the DRM handshake, and no encryption keys or license data are accessed or stored.Media Snag does not integrate with any third-party APIs, analytics services, or external servers controlled by the extension developer. The only network requests made by the extension are to the media servers that host the content on the pages the user visits — these are the same servers the user's browser would normally communicate with.
chrome.storage.local API.All data is stored locally on the user's device using Chrome's chrome.storage.local API and is not accessible to other extensions or websites. Network requests to media servers use the same connection security (HTTPS) as the original page. No data is stored on any external server controlled by the extension developer.
The extension does not sell, share, or transfer user data to any third party. No data leaves the user's browser except for direct requests to media servers hosting the content the user chooses to download.
The extension requests the following browser permissions:
<all_urls>): Required to detect media requests on any webpage the user visits. The extension must monitor all URLs because media streams can be hosted on any domain or CDN. No data from these requests is transmitted externally.For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the legal basis for any processing of data is legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), specifically to provide the core functionality of the extension. Since no personal data is collected, stored, or transmitted, data subject rights — including access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), and data portability (Art. 20) — are inherently fulfilled. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion. Media Snag does not collect, sell, or share any personal information as defined by the CCPA. Because no personal information is processed, there is no data to disclose, delete, or opt out of.
Media Snag does not track users in any way and therefore does not need to respond to "Do Not Track" browser signals. No analytics, advertising, or tracking mechanisms are used.
This extension is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect any data from children.
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
Media Snag is a general-purpose media detection and download tool that is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any website or content provider. It is intended for downloading content that users have the legal right to access, such as their own uploads, Creative Commons–licensed media, or content explicitly offered for download by the content provider.
The extension does not bypass, circumvent, or interfere with digital rights management (DRM), paywalls, or authentication mechanisms.
Downloading copyrighted material without the permission of the rights holder may violate applicable copyright laws, including but not limited to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and equivalent legislation in other jurisdictions. Users are solely responsible for ensuring that their use of this extension complies with all applicable laws and the terms of service of the websites they visit.
The extension developer does not encourage, condone, or facilitate the unauthorized downloading of copyrighted content. The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. In no event shall the developer be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability arising from the use of this software.
